Like resistance bands but with motors
The problem with resistance bands is the inconsistent resistance and inability to adjust. The Pump by Unitree is a all-in-one fitness that's like a resistance band but has a motor instead of elasctics to provide adjustable resistance of up to 44 lbs (20 kg).
The motor provides consistent resistance throughout the pull and can be set up to have a different resistance on the return to initial position. Perhaps because of the consistency in resistance early users of the device have reported that it is a lot harder than resistance bands. Some even say it is harder than what the maximum weight might imply.
However if 44 lbs is still not enough resistance, you can combine up to 8 devices for up to 352 lbs (160 kg) of resistance. For most people one may be sufficient but two Pumps will give you more workout options. You can find the workouts categorized by body part in the free Fitness Pump app categorized, which also allows you to plan your workouts and monitors your fitness information like calories burned and workout time. There's also a game for you to play while you work out.
Pump Specs
The Pump device itself weighs 1.54 lbs (700 g) and is 4.1″x4.1″x2.4″ which is light enough and small enough for travelling. At least it's better than carrying around a 20 kg dumbbell.
A device like the Pump needs an anchor and there are plenty of options for that. You can anchor it to a door, a chair, your foot, and even use a suction cup to anchor it to a flat surface. Each mounting option will give you a set of different workout possibilities especially when you combine it with the different accessories. Currently there's the Exercise Bar add-on and a rowing machine accessory.
The motor runs on battery can that last up to 1,000 reps at 22 lbs (10 kg) or 500 reps at 44 lbs (20 kg) from 100%.
The Unitree Pump is world's first all-in-one portable fitness device with smart resistance control. It's a high quality product made by a pioneer in the field of robotics that have have worked with well known institutions like Standford University, Carnegie Mellon University, The University of Tokyo, Google, Samsung, and more.
Will it break if you drop it?
You would think that a device like the Pump with a motor and electronics built into it would not survive if you drop it. But the motor inside the Pump is encased in a honeycomb structure made of tough sheet metal to keep parts perfectly in place. And on the outside, the Pump is protected by a 0.78″ (20mm) shell that can take falls up to 3.2 ft (1m). According to the makers, the Pump is good to go even after a serious tumble.
