Tangram Smart Rope Rookie tracks your jump rope workout

Tangram Rookie Smart Jump Rope

What's Special About the Rookie Smart Rope?

When you jump rope fast, counting your reps can be difficult. The Rookie Smart Rope by Tangram counts your reps automatically using magnetic sensors in the handle and displays the data on your smartphone via the SmartRope app.

The app also allows you to set up a daily target, compete with your friends, monitor calories burned and records workout times. You can also find interval training recommendations in the app.

When sync with the Apple HeathKit on an iPhone, it can provide with a more accurate picture of your over-all well-being.

To ensure the rope turns smoothly, there are two ball bearing on each handle to significantly reduce friction. The soft texture of the handles make it comfortable to hold and prevent your hands from slipping.

Also, the rope is adjustable to fit users up to 6 feet 10 inches tall.

There's a cooler version of the Tangram Smart Rope

While the Tangram Rookie is a good SmartRope option, it's not nearly as cool as the original SmartRope from Tangram

With 23 LEDs embedded on the rope, the original can display your jump count up to four digits in front of you (in mid-air) while you jump. It's as impressive as it is motivating to use due to the instant feedback it offers.

It also has a rechargeable battery unlike the Rookie, which requires coin cell batteries (CR2032, included).

However, the battery life on the Rookie can last for approximately 3 months or more and 12 months on standby. The rechargeable battery on the original SmartRope lasts for about 36 hours and takes 2 hours for a full charge.

Also consider the fact that built-in batteries tend to deteriorate over time and lose its ability to hold a charge. Not only does the battery life on the Rookie last longer, you can also easily replace it at low cost.

Speaking of cost, the Rookie retails for $39.95 while the original SmartRope is $79.95.

Pros

  • Automatically counts reps
  • Can compete with friends
  • Long battery life
  • Adjustable rope length
  • Bearings makes it smooth and effortless to use
  • High quality finish

Cons

  • Rope may be too light
  • There are some complaints on durability

Conclusion:

Being able to automatically track the number of reps on your jump rope session can be helpful in tracking your level of fitness, even more so when combined with Apple Health Kit.

It does not have a rechargeable battery but that may be a good thing because unlike built-in batteries you can easily replace it when needed at very low cost. Also the single coin cell battery can last a very long time.

There are, however, complaints on the durability of the Rookie Smart Rope but if you get it from Amazon, you should be able to easily ask for a replacement.
