X One – This futuristic ebike is the smartest yet

From Retro to Futuristic

Rayvolt is a Barcelona-based company known for its premium retro high-tech ebike with display-worthy good looks. But with the latest addition to their electric bicycle lineup, the X One, they've gone for a more futuristic look.

The X One is made of  aluminum composite and a carbon fiber fork. It has a sleek and minimalist look with no derailleurs (uses 7-speed gear hub instead) and no battery in sight (blends in with the frame), wheels that match the color of the frame, and streamlined integrated lights that turns on automatically depending on the ambient light.

Not only does the X One look like it came from the future, it has the tech to match. One of its most notable feature is facial recognition, which recognizes the user to unlock and load personal settings automatically.

Speed, Power, Range

Weighing only 48 lbs (22 kg), the X One can go up to 20 mph (32 km/h) for the entry level 250 W version and 28 mph (45 km/h) for the 750 W version. The different speeds cover the various e-bike regulations in of Europe and United States.

With pedal-assist, Rayvolt claims the X One can make riding easier by up to 5 times. When you encounter a hill, the built-in gyro sensor measures the inclination and adjusts the torque accordingly for minimum effort and maximum speed.

It also has a removable 42 V, 16 Ah battery, which gives it a range of up to 47 miles (75 km) on a single charge. Because it is removable, you can extend the range indefinitely with extra batteries. Quick charge technology keeps you going in as little as 2.5 hours.

Regeneration Function

To get more out of a single charge on the X One, it comes with three regenerative functionality. When the   integrated gyro sensor detects downhill movement it charges automatically utilizing the kinetic energy generated. You can also charge the battery by regeneration when you engage the hand brake or pedal backwards.

Safety Features

The X One allows you to keep your hands on the handlebar and use your voice to tell the X One where you want to go or change torque settings and the feel of your ride.

Even the turn signals can be activated automatically based on your chosen GPS route or your body's movement when you reach an intersection. Yes you can still activate the turn signals manually if you want to.

Pros

  • Looks great
  • Removable battery
  • Automatic lighting and turn signals
  • Several regenerative options
  • Guaranteed delivery

Cons

  • Expensive
  • No immediate shipping (indiegogo campaign)

Conclusion:

The X One is a work of art infused with technology. It's pretty expensive especially at retail prices but it's a premium product so the price is pretty much expected.
