What do you see when you look into the mirror? If you’re standing right in front of the mirror, the answer is you.
But a special kind of mirror can stream workouts and become your personal trainer in the comfort of your home; it's called the Mirror.
The Mirror streams workouts to you so you don't have to go to the gym. Because there's a camera and 2-way communication, you can get feedback from your trainer or give feedback of your own.
Is working out in front of a mirror smart?
There’s debate whether working out in front of a mirror is good or bad for you.
Mirrors in general do not improve the results of your workout. But they can be helpful when maintaining symmetry or safe form is required.
Mirrors can prevent injury by allowing you to check on your form while you work out.
Smart Fitness Mirror
When off, The Mirror looks like a normal mirror.
When on, you see yourself, your instructor, and your classmates in an interactive display with integrated camera and stereo speakers.
You can also place the Mirror on a stand or hang it on the wall.
The Mirror works with trainers to create workouts for cardio, strength, yoga, pilates, boxing, and more so you can have the benefits of a personal trainer right at home.
The Mirror was created by Brynn Putnam, whose experience as a professional dancer, recognizes the importance of mirrors for instant feedback to optimize your workout experience.
Brynn Putnam is a former professional ballerina and owner of a chain of boutique fitness studios in Manhattan.
Individual and Group Classes
You can use The Mirror app to choose between individual and group classes.
Individual classes cost between $40-75 more than group classes depending on the trainer.
Participants and trainers in live group classes can communicate with each other.
The Mirror also works for bluetooth heart rate monitors to help you reach your fitness goals.
Injuries and Personal Issues
Mirror uses your fitness profile and biometric data to optimize every workout for best results.
For example, if you have a bad knee, the Mirror will show you alternative movements to prevent injury.
Tonal is another fitness instructor gadget you can mount on the wall.
It's not a mirror like the Mirror but Tonal is also a workout equipment. You can use the adjustable arms to do a number of exercises with "digital weights".
