Swim faster and easier and have more fun
The Swimn S1 is an electric powered kickboard with a 250 W motor that can take you to a maximum of 2.5 mph (4 km/h) by itself and if you swim with it, you can easily go 4.3 mph (7 km/h).
In comparison, the average swimming speed is approximately 1.8 mph (3 km/h) and the fastest swimming speed recorded is 5 mph (8.2 km/h), a record set by Tom Jager in a 50 meter race in 1990.
The S1's 3,600 rpm propellor is covered with grating to prevent fingers from getting cut, making it suitable for both kids and adults.
It's a good tool for swimming further and exploring more or if you're not a swimmer, to practice kicking and enjoy the deep end of the pool. It has even been used at sea with no problems. You can also use the Swimn S1 as a water gun that can be increased in range (by 30%) with the included nozzle.
Using the Swimn is easy. All you have to do is get on it with both arm and press the two buttons underneath to activate the motor. Simply tilt the board to turn. It will stop automatically when you let go of the buttons.
The buttons on the S1 are sandproof so you don't have to worry when taking it out to sea.
Battery
The battery on the Swimn S1 can last for 50 minutes of use. However, the board retains its buoyancy even after it runs out of battery so you can use it like a normal kickboard.
To check the battery you'd have to look underneath at the power button. A green light indicates that the battery is above 80%, yellow means it's between 30 – 80%, and red means it's below 20%.
It takes 2 hours to fully charge the battery. Unfortunately it does not come with removable battery so you're limited to a maximum of 50 minutes of play at a time.
Swimn S1 uses a battery that's within the limit allowed by airlines so you can safely travel by air with it.
Pros
- Great fun
- Makes swimming easy
- Propellers protected by grating for safety
- Doubles as a water gun
- Easy operation
- Can be used like a normal kickboard when battery runs out
- Affordable
- Can be used by both adults and kids
Cons
- Water gun not powerful
- Battery not removable
- 50 minute battery life
- Probably struggles with adults heavier than 80 kg
Conclusion:
As of writing, you can get the Swimn S1 for $169 (depending on availability) through its crowdfunding project on Kickstarter. It's cheaper than the competition but has the same performance or better. Whether you can swim or not, the S1 can be a fun device to have when you're at the swimming pool or at the ocean. It only have 50 minutes of power but it can still be used as a normal kickboard when it runs out of juice.
