Future Shock on the front and rear
Future Shock is a lightweight suspension system that provides a smooth riding experience without the bulk of mountain bike suspensions. Aside from reducing fatigue while riding, with Future Shock, a smooth ride is also a faster ride. The increase in smoothness aids in traction by keeping the tires better seated to the ground. Better traction translate to faster riding speeds.
Specialized have been using Future Shock on the front of its gravel bikes with 20 mm of front suspension travel for years now. With the Diverge STR gravel bike, they've also added a rear Future Shock suspension with 30 mm of travel. The result is a much smoother ride without adding bulk.
The Future Shock system is a said to be effective for riders between 110 and 275 lbs (50 and 125 kgs). Compression settings can be adjusted via a lever on the damper and the rebound speed can be adjustted by inserting a hex key through a hole on the top tube.
