Price
JBL makes good quality audio devices at an affordable price. Just check out the reviews of JBL products on Amazon and you'll see a lot of good reviews. We have a few of them and we can confirm they're pretty good for their price, even beating similar products that have a higher price.
The JBL Tune 220TWS looks a lot like AirPods and so it's only natural to compare them. AirPods are priced at $219 with the standard charging case while the JBL Tune 220TWS is $99.95.
It's a big difference in price, so how does it compare to the JBL Tune 220TWS?
Battery Life
AirPods have a listening time of up to 5 hours on a single charge and a total of 24 hours with the charging case. Also a 15 minute charge can give you up to 3 hours of listening time.
JBL Tune 220TWS on the other hand has a listening time of up 3 hours on a single charge and 19 hours with the case. It takes less than 2 hours for a full charge.
However, if you buy two Tune 220TWSs you'll get 6 hours on a single charge and 38 hours with the two cases. The two JBLs will still be cheaper than the AirPods.
In reality, you probably wouldn't buy two Tune 220TWSs just to have more listening time compared to AirPods. Also, charging the AirPods for 15 minutes can give you the equivalent of a full charge on the JBLs.
Sound
When it comes to sound, AirPods are not known for quality. In fact they sound like the free wired earphones we used to get with an iPhone.
Although sound is subjective, the consensus is the JBLs sound better than the AirPods. The bass is punchy but not overwhelming, and the mids and highs are loud and clear.
Ease of use
The AirPods' biggest strength is its ease of use especially when you use it with an iPhone. Pairing with the iPhone is extremely easy and when you take them out of the case, it automatically connects. Also, when you take them off your ears, music is automatically paused. You can also play/pause or skip forward/go back with a double tap.
With the Tune 220TWS, pairing is not as quick and easy as the Airpods but it's a one-time process. It also connects automatically when taken out of its case. However, it does not pause automatically when removed from the users ears but you can play, pause, switch tracks, take calls, and use voice commands by pressing the buttons on the earbuds. You can also use just one earbud independently but on the right side.
Pros
- A lot cheaper than AirPods
- Better sound quality than AirPods
- Can choose from different colors
Cons
- Battery life not as good
- No quick charging
- Can only use right side independently
- No waterproof IPX rating
- Not supported by JBL Connect App
Conclusion:
The JBL Tune 220TWS is an affordable alternative to Apple Airpods. It has better sound quality and you can choose from different colors. Battery life is not great for single charge though but 19 hours with the case is ok.
